As we battle through day to day life and the ups and downs that it brings, sometimes you read something which makes you stop and think and perhaps even makes you have a few giggles or two! Here is a handful of quotes which I relate to:

“Have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful” William Morris

“I always say that shopping is cheaper than a good psychiatrist” Tammy Faye Bakker

“Fashion changes, style remains” Coco Chanel

“When I read about the evils of drink – I give up reading”   Henry Youngman

How’s this for a motivational quote:

“If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you like to win, but you think you can’t,
It is almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will.
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But soon or late the man who wins,
Is the man who thinks he can.”

Carrie Bradshaw and co are back as Sex and the City 2 finally hit the big screens last week, much to the anticipation of women everywhere. Filled with Manolo’s, designer dresses and outfits to die for, the film didn’t disappoint in the style stakes. At Bertie Browns we all have a favourite character, and whether you’re fashion forward like Carrie or girly like Charlotte, we’ve chosen some pieces for you to add some SATC style to shake up your wardrobe…

Carrie… fearlessly fashionable

Carrie would love to accessorize her fab wardrobe with this bright green Suzy Smith oversized clutch bag and this one off Chris Lewis necklace would definitely make a bold statement. Carrie’s choice of Pandora charms would have to be this gold shoe to celebrate her love of her Manolo Blahniks!

Samantha… bold and sexy

Eye catching, dramatic pieces like this bright pink clutch and ultra-glam earrings personify Samantha’s style, and a breast cancer Pandora chrarm, because who could forget her amazing speech at the Breast Cancer ball in the last series?

Miranda… modern and tailored

We think Miranda would love this chic coral bag from Suzy Smith, and the stylish bracelet from Coeur de Lion, and definitely the Pandora martini glass charm, which would obviously be a Cosmopolitan!

Charlotte… classic and feminine

Traditional Charlotte would love this classy Chanel look clutch bag! She loves her timeless jewellery so a Pandora bracelet would fit the bill and would allow her to choose the Star of David charm to celebrate her Jewish faith.

We may not ever be able to have an amazing wardrobe of clothes like the girls from Sex and the City but we can accessorize what we have to make us feel as glamorous as these New York girls. Take a peek at www.bertiebrowns.co.uk

We are all very excited about the new exclusive collection of personalised jewellery that Bertie Browns has in store and on line to the extent that I have had one specially made with the names of my 2 daughters, Georgia & Lucy. It is absolutely gorgeous and the girls were thrilled when they saw their names on mum’s necklace!

These exclusive necklaces and bracelets from jewellery designer Chambers & Beau are made of sterling silver and 18ct gold plate and provide a simple answer to personalised jewellery.

You can create your own  necklace or bracelet  by choosing organic tags, textured hearts and pebbles and semi precious stones, then customize with hand stamped names, dates or messages making a truly unique piece of jewellery that means something special to you.

The pitter patter necklace and  bracelet is an ideal gift for new mums – we just love the tag with the little footprint! You can add the name of the baby and/or the new mum and even add the birthstone of the new arrival to personlise your piece even more.

Find it difficult trying to find an extra special gift for an 18th or 21st birthday. The Friends Mini Necklace will be sure to please. You don’t have to have “friend” as the tag you can add the birthday girl’s name and perhaps change the colour of the stones used… the possibilities are endless!

I chose the Harry Classic Necklace for my special piece personalised with the names of my daughters . I changed the colour of the stones to black onyx, rock crystal and iolite to complete the look.

Husbands…take note! Your wives will LOVE any of this jewellery and it will definitely earn you extra Brownie points if you take the time to personalise the pieces with the names of your children. For those of you still madly and passionatley in love why not buy her the Amour Cluster Bracelet, you could even add both your initials, one on each of the angel wings.

The beauty of this jewellery collection is that it can be worn every day to help remind you of those special to you. You are also guaranteed lots of lovely comments which is an added bonus!! Prices start at £85.

Yah, it’s friday & you always have to give yourself a treat on Friday, don’t you? It’s a celebration of getting through the week and & a big HELLO to the weekend! Our Friday treat is always cheese scones, so much so that Friday has been renamed “Cheese Scone Friday”

This week I decided to be a true domestic goddess and make them myself ( don’t worry it will just be a passing phase!!)

They really are easy to make & are gorgeous eaten whilst still warm with butter or why not add a bit of salami for a more savoury option.

Mmm…. how many more sit ups do I have to do to burn off those calories?

Here at Bertie Browns we can hardly believe that we are half way through May already ( & still no real sunshine!) We have all been busy with our Blue Cross Sale which was a huge success and are now in the process of preparing a few new ranges of jewellery that will hit the shelves very soon! Jane was also heard mentioning the “C” word this week, no not THAT word……Christmas!! Believe it or not, she started buying Christmas cards this week. Anyway, here is a brief snippet of what we have been up to and are looking forward to…….

Jane

Jane (now known as GI Jane) is still recovering from her exhausting yet exhilirating week at Military Boot Camp (what WAS she thinking!?!) and can be found limping around the shop with a strained achilles tendon! She would also like it to be known that there is no truth in the rumour that she can be heard screaming “Give me ten pushups!” everytime a member of staff makes a mistake!!

Linda

Linda is very excited about her trip to New York on Friday and when she’s not been practising her “have a nice day!” smile she can be found planning her trip in meticulous detail. Top of her agenda is the Sex and The City Tour ( a fairly popular TV show that was originally based on The Bertie Babes!) but she feels she still needs more experience in drinking Cosmopolitans (yeah right!)

Jo

Jo is leaving the rest of The Bertie Babes behind in a few weeks to start a new life working for Disney in Florida! She has been heard uttering questions like  “Does Florida have Top Shop and Heat Magazine?”  or “OMG…Disney doesn’t allow you to wear mascara or nail polish!” There will definitely be a lot of tears shed when she leaves but we have broken it to her gently that she will tire very easily of the lovely weather and the glamourous lifestyle and will soon which she was back at Berties!

Rhona

Rhona has been very restrained this month with her eating activities as Jane is on her Military diet and Linda is trying to lower her cholesteral! Although we are all curious as to where she disappears to……..

Debbie

Debbie has been even more excitable than normal as this month the new Spring/Summer Pandora charms were launched. Her particular favourite is this charm……

even although she thought it was for ladies who drove Mercedes cars!!!!

Sadie

On our recent day trip to Edinburgh, as a belated birthday present for Jane, (any excuse will do!) we all had a fab time starting with cocktails at Harvey Niks and ending with cocktails in Le Monde with a few cocktails and G&T’s in between! We are all getting a bit worried that Sadie has been working for Bertie Brown’s too long as she seems to look more like Jane every day! ( nae luck!!)

Tune in later for more Bertie Babes antics!!

Following on from our Facebook post on Dots and Spots new FAB decorative tape (available in 6 great designs and in up to 4 vibrant colours) this tape will add the perfect finishing touch to your gifts and parcels, making them stand out from the crowd. Here are a few different suggestions from customers of how to use the tape:

  • Aldonka is looking forward to her beach themed wedding and would use the tape to provide the finishing touch to her invite envelopes.
  • PosiePatchwork would use the spotty tape tape to create some tiny bunting flags on string.
  • Keetepie would brighten up her dull filing cabinet with the country garden tape.
  • Toni Quandt would use hers as a border trim around her mirror and other accessories in her nautical themed bathroom.
  • Crafty Helen suggested buying some plain brown paper bags (like you get your favourite take away in!) and jazzing them up with the tape, making them into gift bags with matching tags.
  • Miss Bee is going to ‘pimp her ride’ and use the red spotty tape to brighten up her black dutch bicycle.
  • Katie Chilvers  has just set up a Cupcake bakery so the Cup cake tape will come invery handy!
  • Amy who will ‘use it on just about anything’
  • and Nicky Benton who is going to use the Cup Cake tape make her biscuit tin 5 year old proof!

Keep those ideas and photos coming!

Murano glass originates from Murano, a small island off the coast of Venice, Italy. Venetian glass makers moved to Murano in 1921 when they were forced to leave due to the risk of their foundries setting fire to Venice’s wooden buildings.

Martick Red Murano Glass Heart Link Bracelet

Murano glass jewellery is renowned for its bright, beautiful colours and intricate designs. The method of producing Murano glass requires great skill. Most Murano glass art is made using the lampworking technique. The glass is made from silica which becomes liquid at high temperatures. As the glass passes from a liquid to a solid state, there is an interval when the glass is soft before it hardens completely. This is when the glass-master can shape the material. Some techniques involve adding compounds to the molten glass to achieve a particular colour whereas other pieces will involve combining layers of glass.

During the 1950’s and 1960’s Murano glass was at its height of popularity and was exported all over the world. Tourists to Venice and Murano also bought the glass in great quantities to take home, with popular Murano glass gifts being Murano beads and Murano Jewellery.

Today, Murano glass products are still extremely popular. Designers have started to use Murano glass beads combined with silver to achieve a more modern look. Martickis one designer in particular that has incorporated Murano Glass with silver to create their very popular Murano glass heart bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Martick’ jewellery designs are timeless pieces suitable for all ages.
